February 2007 Wedding - need recommendations!

To contact us Click HERE

Hello all. I%26#39;m recently engaged and looking for a beautiful, reasonably-priced ceremony/reception site in the LBK area. I%26#39;ve researched AMI already...Sandbar Restaurant seems very popular but may be TOO casual???

My fiance and I are headed down to visit from Atlanta in April and I%26#39;d like to have a solid list of venues to visit by then. So far on my list...Sandbar, The Sun House, LBK Club %26amp; Resort. Any others that I%26#39;m overlooking???

The wedding will be about 100 people or so...informal on the beach...but NOT tacky or cheesy. Seems there is a fine line... Please help - I%26#39;m interested in hearing any and all advice. Thanks!

February 2007 Wedding - need recommendations!

I%26#39;m not sure about your wedding plans, but I can tell you about two places you can stay at for your honeymoon. Little Gull Cottages is a beautiful place for a romantic honeymoon. It is right on the beach and is more of a private beach. Wicker Inn is another romantic getaway surrounded by gorgeous tropical plants and a quick walk down a path to the beach. I have stayed in both places and loved it. this is just a soggestion. Please check them out.

February 2007 Wedding - need recommendations!

Hi there,

My husband and I used to live in Atlanta and were married in LBK 4/04. We were married at the Hilton which we found reasonably priced and made for a beautiful wedding spot. I know since we were married there, they have done a lot of renovations. I don%26#39;t know if you checked with them already, but I remember them working with our budget, too. We were married on the beach and had our reception indoors at their Antigua Room. I would be happy to send you a link to wedding photos or answer any questions you may have. I checked out all the same spots you are checking out. I did find that the Sandbar was too casual for us. Oh, and we had a little under 100 ppl.

You can email me at erikabotfeld@gmail.com

Good luck,

Erika

I do belive you do now have to prove that you are a competent person with some paperwork /qulification

Jet boat rental at WDW resorts

Hello pinkdiamond,

We have always been able to walk up and grab a boat however I would check at the dock of your resort after arrival and check on how busy they are during your visit. A Canopy which fits 8 people is $27.00 for half hour, Pontoon $42.00. SeaRaycers are $24.00 for half hour.

I typed ';marina'; in to the search function at www.waltdisneyworld.com and found that you can call (407) 939-0754 for information.

Marina Rentals

Choose from a fleet of motorized and non-motorized craft that are available for rent. Sea Raycer by Sea Ray boats, sailboats, SunTRACKER pontoon boats, Boston Whaler Montauk boats*, pedal boats, kayaks and canoes are some of the items available at various Walt Disney World Resort hotels.

* *Boston Whaler Montauk boats currently not available at Downtown Disney Area, where canopy boats may be rented instead.

Just from what I saw, a canopy or pontoon looks best. The racer, by Searay, idles at best. Nothing goes faster than putt putt. At least have some shade!

The rentals are by the half hour. I don%26#39;t think you can book the regular rentals ahead of time, only the rentals that include a driver. I%26#39;ve never seen the marinas totally empty even on really busy days. There are a limited number of canopy and pontoon boats though, so if they don%26#39;t have one at the first resort you go to, hop on the monorail and try another. Our family has found it to be more economical to rent one canopy boat instead of two or three of the smaller boats, and the canopy boats go plenty fast enough.

I have rented a condo on the beach at the Gulf Strand Resort for a week on our honeymoon in July. Can anyone tell me if I have made a good choice? Were from Kentucky and have had to rely on Pics. off the internet for info. Also, we were assured we would have a gulf view, does it appear that all the condos have gulf views or what? I would appreciate any input!!!!

Curious

I really think you will like the Gulf Strand. It has the best beach access and lovely balconies off of each room. I think all the rooms do have a gulf view. (Check the candid photos on TA). I%26#39;m pretty sure you will enjoy your view.

The only down side is that is next door to the public access beach parking.

Another upside is that you have shopping right across the street (groceries, restaraunts, everything).

Curious

Thank you for your input swim, that reassures me quite a bit. It was a hard decision going on blind faith .........ummm ok. stupid question time. What candid pics. are you referring to?

When you view the list of hotels on TripAdvisor, it will give you one picture provided by the hotel and a like to other photos provided by the hotel. However, when you click on the hotel%26#39;s name, or in this case condo, it should have a link up at the top near the address that says ';View Candid Traveler Photos';. I submitted quite a few just last week and they should be accessible from there.

:) I don%26#39;t think that link is very noticeable there either. I keep hoping TripAdvisor will move it up to be accessible from where they list all of the hotels.

I just read the London reviewers review about the views overlooking the parking lot. That is true. It is not a straight shot looking out where you would see nothing else but water unless you are on the end of hte building closest to the beach.

Did you find the pictures? If that doesn%26#39;t look like what you were wanting, I don%26#39;t recall any condos on St. Pete Beach that are laid out longwise along the beach so that every room has a dead on view but Madeira Beach is full of them. Las Brisas, Kima, Ocean Sands, Sea Breeze are just a few. I%26#39;d beware of Sea Breeze though as it has some some bad reviews despite having possibly the best beach and prettiest views.

We have been coming to st pete beach for many years. This year our neighbors stayed at the Gulf Strand and were very pleased. Her only complaint was that it was small for her family, but that won%26#39;t be a problem in your case. The grocery store is across the street and you can actually walk to some fun restaurants. As mentioned in other replies, the condo sits at a right angle to the beach. For good beach grub go to Crabby BIll%26#39;s and order something like the blackened grouper sandwich. 24 years ago we spent our honeymoon in Clearwater. Best wishes!!

For pictures go go google.com click on images and enter gulf strand. Quite a few come up.

Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure

To contact us Click HERE

Is it different admission for these parks? We only had one day planned for Universal in July. Which park is better for children 2, 4, 5 and 7? How far apart are the parks?

Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure

the parks are a few hundred metres apart and going well at a quiet time you could do both in one day, but its hard to pick,

you have shrek in universal which is a big pull and men in black. but i think jimmy neutron is closing ??? but there is et also and the animal planet show which as an adult even i enjoyed.

in the other park you have spinderman, dr zuss and the dionsaurs of jurassic park so its 50/50 but i%26#39;d there early and try and get both done, if you are there at opening you%26#39;ll get shrek out of the way early !!!

Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure

There is a different admission to each park. They are walking distance apart (5 minute adult walk) and if you rent a stroller in one park you can take the stroller to the other park with you. At Islands of adventure all the children will be able to go on rides in Seuss Landing, see Dr. Seuss characters, and the 5 and 7 year olds depending on their heights will be able to enjoy other rides like maybe the Spiderman ride and a few others. If they are into Spiderman, Captain America, Xmen and a few other super heroes they%26#39;ll be able to see them at this park. You%26#39;ll need to get a time schedule when you enter the park. In November when we were there the super heroes arrived at the top of most of the hours.

At Universal Studios they can see characters such as Jimmy Neutron, SpongeBob, Shrek, Scooby Do, Woody Wood Pecker, Penguins from Madagascar, Barney. The 2 %26amp; 4 year olds can go on and do things in the Kids Zone section where they have a small roller coaster, fun play areas one dry and one with water. You can also go see a Barney show and an Animal Planet Live show in this section. The 5 %26amp; 7 year olds, again depending on their heights, may be able to go on a couple rides like Men in Black and Back to the future. There%26#39;s also the Shrek 3-D that all can enjoy and the Jaws ride depening on if you think they%26#39;d be terrified or not.

We like both parks and each time we were there have visited both (our kids now are 3 %26amp; 5). Both times we went I have found the best deals and purchased my tickets from the Universal site www.universalorlando.com. They can run some good specials like kids free and three days free on each 2 day/2 park paid adult ticket or a non-expiring second day.

The parks are side by side. Admission is separate for each park. AAA is running a special where you get a free child%26#39;s ticket for each adult ticket (a great deal) and you can buy a 2-park pass. It%26#39;s a 2-day 2-park pass but they%26#39;ve added on 3 additional days for free. I think they are also offering this on the Universal Studios website. Both parks have great stuff for the kids. We%26#39;ve been doing both since my son was 1 1/2. We also have 4, now 6, 7, 10 and 13. Universal Studios has some great rides (Jimmy Neutron, Back to the Future, Shrek, Jaws (not too scary)) that all can enjoy. There%26#39;s an area for small kids with a Woody Woodpecker small rollercoaster and a Curious George water park. Also, Animal Planet does a show that%26#39;s great for the kids and a nice break. Islands of Adventure has bigger rides but also a really wonderfully done Dr. Seussland. Plus, even if someone is just waiting with the 2-year old, the people watching is great.

Wow thanks for the info. I have a lot to think about for our schedule. Different admission? Interesting.

Julian Assange, pictured here in October, is the founder of WikiLeaks, which facilitates the anonymous leaking of secret information. Julian Assange, pictured here in October, is the founder of WikiLeaks, which facilitates the anonymous leaking of secret information.   London (CNN) -- WikiLeaks said Thursday it has begun publishing some 2.4 million e-mails from Syrian politicians, government ministries and companies dating back to 2006.
The e-mails, which are in a range of languages including Arabic and Russian, come from the ministries of presidential affairs, finance, information and foreign affairs, among others.
According to WikiLeaks, the e-mails "shine a light on the inner workings of the Syrian government and economy, but they also reveal how the West and Western companies say one thing and do another."
One e-mail shows an Italian company trying to get around U.S. sanctions on Syria and another indicates that the company was sending engineers and helicopter radio equipment to Syria as recently as February 2012.
Syrian forces began their crackdown against protesters in March 2011 and that has sparked a grass-roots uprising and a bloody regime offensive against dissenters.
WikiLeaks, which facilitates the anonymous leaking of secret information, has published about 250,000 confidential U.S. diplomatic cables, causing embarrassment to the government and others. It has also published hundreds of thousands of classified U.S. documents relating to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Its founder, Julian Assange, was arrested in Britain in 2010 over allegations of rape and sex crime charges in Sweden.

The right outcome, but the wrong reason

Faithful reader April Day sent me this message. The subject is not my bailiwick. I usually defer to Bill Medvecky or Toes when it comes to CASA and CPS issues. But given that Bill doesn't seem to be signing, and Toes has seemingly fallen off the face of the Earth, I'll be happy to post on this.
Here's something you might want to address on your blog.

On June 19, Debra Brown, the wife of Judge Mike Brown of San Angelo, Texas, was sentenced to 4 years in prison from embezzling funds from the Child Advocacy Center. Her husband divorced her and she will have to pay more than $300,000 to the Child Advocacy Center.

Our friend, Bill Medvecky, discussed Debra Brown on his blog. He posted photos of Debra Brown and her girl friends from CASA in Colorado City. But Bill has ended his blog and is on vacation this month.

For further information, please read the San Angelo Standard Times.
There is schadenfreude aplenty in this news, and yet....

It's a little like Al Capone getting pinched for tax evasion instead of racketeering and murder. This disgraceful [...] sub-human is going to jail where, trust me, she belongs. But she belongs there for what she and her do-goodie-good ilk have done to the children who were torn from their parents and placed in situations where they could be raped or molested or even killed, all done in the name of protecting the children but carried out, in reality, for no better reason that to protect the funding of their loathsome and predatory agencies.

Yeah, I'm glad Debra Brown is rotting in prison. I just wish it was for the right reason.Ye Olde Journalist

GlaxoSmithKline admits to criminal pharma fraud in 3 billion dollar case

    To contact us Click HERE
    From: Natural News

    by D Holt

    7-5-2012

British registered company, GlaxoSmithKline, faces $3 billion in penalties after pleading guilty to the biggest health care fraud case in history. GSK admitted that physicians had been bribed to push potentially dangerous drugs in exchange for Madonna tickets, Hawaiian holidays, cash and lucrative speaking tours. They also admitted distributing misleading information regarding the antidepressant Paxil. The report claimed that it was suitable for children, but failed to acknowledge data from studies proving its ineffectiveness in children and adolescents.

GSK faced charges that they had used the gifts to sell three drugs that were either unsafe, or used for purposes that were not approved. The first drug, Paxil also known as Seroxat, was touted as safe and effective for children and adolescents. The ineffectiveness of Paxil, and the link to suicides, meant that it was banned for kids under 18-years-olds in 2008.

The second drug, Avandia was used in Britain to treat diabetes until it was withdrawn due to safety fears, including increased risk of heart attacks. The US government claimed that GSK had attempted to conceal the data surrounding the dangers.

The third drug, Wellbrutin is used in the UK for treating depression, but it was alleged that GSK had recommended physicians used it for ADHD, lost libido and as a slimming aid. None of which were approved uses for the drug.

The moral code of Big Pharma companies exposed

Sir Andrew Witty, chief executive of GSK said "Whilst these offenses originate in a different era for the company, they cannot and will not be ignored. On behalf of GSK, I want to express our regret and reiterate that we have learned from the mistakes that were made. We are deeply committed to doing everything we can to live up to and exceed the expectations of those we work with and serve. In the US, we have taken action at all levels in the company. We have fundamentally changed our procedures for compliance, marketing and selling."

US attorney for Massachusetts, Carmen Ortiz said: "The GSK sales force bribed physicians to prescribe GSK products using every imaginable form of high priced entertainment, from Hawaiian vacations to paying doctors millions of dollars to go on speaking tours, to a European pheasant hunt, to tickets to Madonna concerts."

This is the biggest settlement in the history of drug industries, ahead of the 2009 Pfizer case in which it was fined $2.2 billion for promoting four drugs for unapproved uses. In 2010, GSK paid $96 million to a whistle-blower who exposed contamination problems and a management cover up in Puerto Rico.

The practice of pushing drugs for unapproved uses is endemic within the drug industries. Two of the largest drug companies have been caught and fined huge amounts for chasing sales targets using any means necessary. It proves that the health of customers, even children, ranks lower on the companies' agenda than profit. Using bribes to get doctors to prescribe drugs shows a complete lack of moral fiber from both sales teams and the doctors. After this case, surely the doctors also need to face the courts for their conduct.

Whilst the amounts of money seem to be a huge punishment for GSK, the settlement is merely a slap on the wrist for a company whose market value is $133 billion. Can we trust another multinational that promises to clean up its act, when others have promised the same, only to behave just as recklessly but much more surreptitiously.

    Lifeguard’s controversial firing under review

    by

    7-5-2012

Amid a public outcry, officials in Florida say they plan to review whether the firing of a lifeguard who left his "zone" to help save a swimmer was justified.
Tomas Lopez, the 21-year-old lifeguard, was fired on Monday after he left his station to help a man who had been pulled out of the water in an unprotected area of Hallandale Beach. According to the Orlando Sun Sentinel, Lopez and an off-duty nurse tended to the man, a 21-year-old from Estonia, until paramedics arrived. The man—who is recovering at a local hospital—was in a "swim at your own risk" area of the beach about 1,500 feet south of the boundary lifeguards are expected to patrol.
"I was on stand, and guests came up to me and told me there was someone drowning, that people were screaming and so I started running in the direction," Lopez told NBC Miami. "I ran out to do the job I was trained to do—I didn't think about it at all."
Lopez' dismissal sparked near-immediate criticism; two fellow guards quit in protest.
"We are not a fire-rescue operation," Jeff Ellis, head of company that manages the lifeguards, told the paper. "We are strictly a lifeguard organization—we limit what we do to the protected swimming zones that we've agreed to service." The company has provided lifeguards for the area's public beaches and pools since 2003. "We have liability issues and can't go out of the protected area," Lopez's supervisor, Susan Ellis, told WPTV. "What he did was his own decision. He knew the company rules and did what he thought he needed to do."
"If we find our actions on the part of the leadership team were inappropriate, we will rectify it based upon the information that comes forward," Ellis added. The review is expected to be completed Friday.
"We take the safety of all visitors to our beaches very seriously," Hallandale Beach City Manager Renee Crichton said in a statement. "Whether they are in a protected area or unprotected area, we believe aid must be rendered."Ye Olde Journalist

TSA Now Harassing People Buying Drinks at the Airport

    To contact us Click HERE
    From: BBCW

    7-5-2012

Having spent so many hours of my life on delays trying to get back home to Chicago O'Hare, airport vendors can be a passenger's best friend to pass time. Whether it be magazines, souvenirs, or a drink, they help pass the time at airports. It appears the TSA is going to make this relationship harder.

KJCT reports of another layer of TSA harassment:

Passengers say their problem is not with the rules at the airport. They understand why drinks are not allowed through security, but when they buy one while they wait for their flight, they say the TSA should not ask to test it.

Passengers say traveling is a big enough stress, but now some are worried the drinks they are getting are not safe.
The TSA would not say what they are testing for or why they are doing it, but travelers say they have a right to know. "I'm always glad that my safety is a priority, I just think testing drinks after they've already been bought might be a little extreme," infrequent flyer Jennifer Smart said. "The water or or the juices or anything you buy here in the airport, TSA is going to come over and look and check and test it? That's just ridiculous," world traveler Thomas Burgard said.

We asked the TSA about the drink testings and they said, "TSA employees have many layers of security throughout airports. Passengers may be randomly selected for additional screening measures at the checkpoint or in the gate at any time."

Passengers we spoke to also said they think the price of drinks are too expensive. If security is going to test them, it should be before they are purchased, so they do not waste their money.

700 New Condos Still Unsold In Downtown West Palm Beach

    To contact us Click HERE

MIAMI, FL--Even though buyers acquired more developer units per month in the first 90 days of 2011 than a year earlier, the Downtown West Palm Beach market still has more than 700 new condos unsold from the South Florida real estate boom, according to a new report from CondoVultures.com.
As of March 31, 2011, the unsold new condo inventory represents nearly 21 percent of the more than 3,400 units created in Downtown West Palm Beach since 2003, according to the report based on the Condo Vultures® Official Condo Buyers Guide To Downtown West Palm Beach And Palm Beach Island™.  In the first quarter of 2011, buyers acquired an average of 12 new condos per month at a blended price of $236 per square foot in Downtown West Palm Beach, according to an analysis of Palm Beach County records.
This year’s new condo sales activity represents a nine percent increase in transactions from the first quarter of 2010 when an average of 11 units were acquired per month at a blended price of $232 per square foot.
“At the current sales pace in this all-cash market, Downtown West Palm Beach has nearly five years of available inventory remaining,” said Peter Zalewski, a principal with the Bal Harbour, Fla.-based real estate consultancy Condo Vultures® LLC.
“The good news is, Downtown West Palm Beach has fewer unsold new condos than the markets of Greater Downtown Miami, South Beach, and Sunny Isles Beach in Miami-Dade County.
“The bad news is, Downtown West Palm Beach's total unsold inventory number does not include some 500 units that were previously acquired in distressed bulk deals by out-of-town investment groups that are now trying to resell the condos at a profit to individual purchasers.”   Peter Zalewski of Condo Vultures® can be reached at 800-750-0517 or by email at peter@condovultures.com.
